A Description of Jack (Symbol)
Jack is the main antagonist in the novel, Lord of the Flies by William Golding. He serves as a symbol of pure evil, hate, and destruction. He is a power hungry dictator who does not care about the well being of the boys on the island. He uses the choir boys on the island to his own personal advantage, and he shows no remorse for the brutal killings of both Simon and Piggy. Jack can be compared to many tyrannical rulers, such as Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, and Kim Jong II. All of these world leaders, have committed similar crimes and have carried out many human rights violations. Jack is a dictator, and he does not listen to any suggestions. Jack symbolizes the evil in mankind, and William Golding shows readers that no matter how old you are, there is always a tyrannical and evil nature in all of us.
Jack's very purpose in this novel is to show us that there will always be a fight between good and evil, there will always be a competition between right and wrong, and there will always be a power struggle between Democracy and Dictatorship.
