Roger
"Roger stooped, picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at Henry — threw it to miss. The stone, that token of preposterous time, bounded five yards to Henry's right and fell in the water. Roger gathered a handful of stones and began to throw them. Yet there was a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter, into which he dare not throw. Here, invisible yet strong, was the taboo of the old life. Round the squatting child was the protection of parents and school and policemen and the law" (Ch.4).
Roger is the biggest bully out of all the boys. He is Jack's partner in their hunting group. He follows Jack's lead because he likes the idea of destruction and taking down others. He is introduced as "slight" and fairly quiet. Throughout the novel, he does things purely to hurt people for his enjoyment. In chapter four, he destroys the little boys sand castles, "kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering stones" (4.7-8). He doesn't start out too cruel, still wanting to keep some existence of their old life that had authority and order. As time goes on, he becomes more and more violent, becoming completely sadistic when joining Jack's group. He reaches the ultimate point of savagery by throwing the boulder that lead to Piggy's death.
