What Symbol Does Simon Represent?
Simon represents the goodness in humanity. He can be described as the only pure character on the island. He is shy and sensitive, but he cares for the well being of the young boys on the island. William Golding put Simon's character in the novel, becausehe shows readers that humans are not all bad. They can be controlled, and with proper parental guidance children can have pure incentives. When Simon's character is compared with the Bible, he can most accurately be described as a Jesus and Holy Character. Simon is a "role model" child, and he helps diversify himself from the other boys by having a pure personality. Ex: shows compassion and cares for others well being.
"Fancy thinking the beast was something you could hunt or kill! … You knew, didn't you? I'm part of you? Close, close, close. I'm the reason why it's no go? Why things are what they are?" (8.337)
